Hi everyone,
This weekend, we’d love you to stop our fictional wedding with your best one-liner ever! We’ve written you a short intro below, and would love to see where you take it next!
Susanna’s nerves were thrumming, sending the blood pounding through her veins and keeping her acutely aware that on this, the biggest day of her life, there was a lot at stake.
The wedding cake was iced. The guests were crowding the beautiful church, waiting for the bride. Expectation filled the air until it almost stifled her under its weight. Susanna reassured herself that everything was ready; there was nothing left to go wrong… Nothing that was under her control, at least.
She drew in a deep steadying breath, reaching out to accept the bouquet from her bridesmaid a moment before the magnificent double doors to the church were thrown open.
But before she could take one step down the aisle, a voice shattered the silence.
Who interrupted Susanna’s wedding, and why? Give us the next line – just the one – that you think will hook the reader’s attention and set up a fabulous story!
Happy Writing!

“There she is! There’s the woman who stole my husband!”
(Not exactly one line, but yeah. Definitely would have me sitting up, and not to check out the bride’s dress. ^_^)
“Hello, Clara,” Marco said, his voice every bit as dark and sexy as it had been the last time she’d seen him, nearly six years ago. “I thought I might find you here.”
“I know you can see me”,said Jake standing there as real as ever despite the fact she’d laid his body to rest six feet under.
Ahhh! Blood-suckin’ dead guy! (I meant that affectionately, of course.)
Or is he?? Maybe she buried someone else or she sees dead people 😉
“He’s not the man for you, Susanna,” his deep voice reverberated her bones.
“The lady is my wife!” – Brandr, her future husband from a past time period. (Time Travel’s a B!+ch.)
“That’s her. The bitch who killed my husband!”
“Oh, God, she thinks the bomb is a bouquet of flowers and that we’re all guests at a stupid wedding.”
“You can’t marry him, he’s your half-brother.”
“You’re under arrest”
“He’s dead!” a woman’s voice shrieked. “He’s dead!”
“Take me back, darling, Rome was not built in a single night.”
“Stop this wedding now, the bride and groom are under arrest!”
“This is the sheriff’s department and I am here to arrest the groom.”
“Bomb! There’s a bomb!”
“There won’t be a wedding today Susanna, you and I are still married darlin’!” Chase stood smugly in the side entrance, worn jeans and untucked plaid shirt, his devious smirk a telling truth.
“I can’t allow you to marry the wrong twin, Susanna.”
“You’ll have to wait to tie the knot with your next husband, Susanna, because — as you can see — your old one’s not quite dead, yet.”
“You left your thong at my place last night, thought you might want it back.”
Wow! Wicked!
Dr. Simmons paused and leaned on his cane, his free shaking a fist at her in fury”You can’t let you marry an extra-terrestrial, Susanna.
Dr. Simmons tested a withered hand on his cane, and shook his free one at her in fury. “I can’t let you marry my android, Susanna. He’s not a sanctioned being.”
Loved this because it could work the other way, too.
…I can’t let you marry my human, S, there is no warranty on them!
“She isn’t who she claims to be!” A fifty-something woman with wild hair and even wilder eyes stood beside the last pew, pointing a shaky finger at Susanna.
“Who are you, and what are you doing here?” said the other bride, leading her own entourage out of a limo parked at the foot of the church steps.
“How can you still go through with this, after last night?”
Darling, this is the funeral for my great uncle, Sir Conor Hackett so, I’m afraid you got either you date or venue wrong.
Typo. I meant ‘your date’.
“Sorry to interrupt the blessed event but the baby the bride is carrying…is mine.”
“Stop her! She’s Caterina, the infamous jewel thief. And those are my diamonds she’s wearing.”
Mommy?
Too funny! How about, “pizza delivery?”
“Walk through that door and your life will be forfeit,” Sindy’s voice waver along with as barrel of the shotgun she had pointed at her sister.
“I told you I’d come for you, you’re mine,” Hawk said in a low and dangerous tone.
Nice!
“You will not commit bigamy!” shouted Joel. Susanna turned and saw her first husband. “That was annulled!” she yelled back. “Nope.”
“This isn’t Susanna Reid. This woman is the missing Princess Annastacia de Beaufort of Mont Clair.”
Ah! Classic!
😉
“I can’t do this, Suzy. No matter how much money you pay me, I can’t marry you.”
“Is there a doctor in the church? The father of the bride is having a heart attack.”
“You can’t marry her, Paul. She’s only doing it to save her father’s business.”
“There’s the bastard that got me pregnant,” yelled the woman , pointing straight at her.
“Sorry to interrupt such proceedings, however it is advisable, since the bride is already married. To me,” declared Sheikh Jamal Sultan Al-Azeem of Karadar.
“I have a warrant for your arrest Susanna York for the murder of your husband Sir Lloyd Peterson,” detective sergeant Daniel Steele stepped in front of her, handcuffs in hand.
“Wake up, Susanna! Wake up! We’re going to be late for work!” Groggy and pissed, Susanna rolled over and stumbled out of bed.
“Stop! You can’t marry her, when you love me,” declared her sister.
“Don’t you think life is a bore, if everything goes to plan, hey Susanna honey,” a deep southern voice drawled, “guess what, this one isn’t going to end pretty.”
“Fire!”
“One more step, my lovely Susanna, and you would face a life of misery, scandal, and shame. I would make sure of it,” the groom’s bother stated from the sidelines.
Oops meant brother that pesky r nicked off
“I don’t know what they told you or what they showed you, but that wasn’t my signature on those divorce papers, ” he said, pushing the bride aside and walking down the aisle.
“The groom’s doing a runner,” a voice cried out.
“Stop the wedding! She is an impostor! I am the real Susanna that is my twin, Patrica” declared another dressed bride holding up her tied wrists.
The maid of honour hesitated and pulled the bouquet away from Susanna’s hands before she could grab it. “You need to come with me now if you want to save his life.”
Don’t move or else….
“Excuse me, but are you the bridezilla that is marrying my biological father today?” a rather shrill, teenage voice shrieked behind her.
Everybody run, the aliens have landed.
“Susanna.” That voice from a past she had vanished from so long ago, said in the unnerving quiet tone she hated as much as nails on a chalkboard. “Their kind would never understand.” Turning, Susanna stared into the eyes of her true father. Her 700 year old, oh and let’s not forget from this planet, father.
Stop! You can’t marry him, I’m having his babies, twins.
“Huh. And here I thought you were married to me.”
Susanna was about to meet the love of her life when the doors of the church flew opened and a man cried, You leaving me for this fool!
“Your groom is an impostor”
Your fiancé just sold me the film rights to your wedding ceremony, I need everyone on the right hand side to move over or else his gambling debts are coming due!
“White really isn’t really your color, babe.”
Tis a moment yet till the groom arrives, would you help an old woman with her spinning wheel, my dear?
‘He’s not who you think he is.’
Hey Annie they found you- we gotta go, NOW!
Sorry little sister, but I had to text him, now prove me wrong and walk down that aisle with Cole Masteron standing only five feet away.
‘You don’t have to marry him or anyone for money now, Susanna,’ her grandfather shouted then slumped to his knees.
“Suzanna James you are under arrest for the murder of Stuart James, your husband.” Announced the tall, dark man standing within the entrance of the chapel.
“Wait, Susanna”, the groom’s brother yelled as he entered the chapel. “My brother’s plane has not arrived and we lost contact with him 2 hours ago.”
Susanna winced at the blast of a fire extinguisher, the flowers in her hands morphing into a mush of what looked to be her bosses birthday cake, the smell of roses settling into the acrid aroma of a singled Chanel business suit.
Susanna, I’ve been waiting for you.
“Stop!” said a voice from nowhere. “You’re marrying a dead man”.
“Mommy, don’t.”
“Andrew I thought you said you were done with women!”
“Why is it your kind never listen to reason?”
“Honey your grooms checks bounced, his limo arrived empty and his cell is no longer in service” the wedding planner stated her sweet drawl now low and dangerous. “About the forty two thousand dollar bill, I take cash or credit cards.”
‘You say those damn vows to that man while pregnant with my child and I swear to God you’ll regret it for the rest of your life,’ a knowing voice threatened behind her.
“Susanna, didn’t you cry for me?”
“Your groom ran off with the best man.”
‘You do remember what happened last night, don’t you?’
“Dada”, Susanna froze as her young son spoke the name that he had only ever uttered to the painting she had made for him of the father he would never know.
That is brilliant!
“Stop My darling! If you will marry someone else,I will die in front of you,for sure!”
“Susanna, you can’t go through with this!” Josiah exclaimed.
“And why not, Josiah? You gave up your right to me four years ago. When you disappeared the night before our wedding.” Susanna replied.
“I never would have figured you for someone that would settle for being second best, Sweetheart.”
Stop Susanna, you can’t marry him. I am pregnant with his child

I spent the entire shutdown working. Had no time to wind down. I didn’t see my son much when school shutdown. My one co worker was told to stay home for 3 weeks so I picked up her hours. This year has been really crappy.
Ugh, Janell. Here’s hoping the rest of your summer is better.
Thanks for the info, Carol! Everyone is different in how they deal with the shutdown! I stay at home all the time since I don’t work so I haven’t been too effected but my shopping and errands sure have been effected!
Valri, I’ve been doing most of my shopping online. My local Target is still low on some items – mostly cleaning supplies. Grocery store is pretty much back to normal. Most of the dining in our town is outdoor. I can’t imagine have school-age kids!
Wow–getting your creative process on track must have been daunting–especially with “extra-large dog” glad to have you home. You don’t like coffee–I love coffee and have enjoyed my fortifying 2 cups in the morning even more than usual! How as COVID affected your story lines and characterizations? Best Wishes for all releases!
Interesting question, Virginia. You’ll have to tell me if the tone of my “COVID” books changed any! LOL
Life has changed so much! My dad passed Feb 2. The assisted living facility my folks were at went into hardcore lockdown the beginning of March. Mom couldn’t leave her apartment for 4 months! She was on the third floor, Will be 89 in two months & doesn’t use the phone. My husband and I remodeled the lower level completely and moved her in with us July 1. What a life change and difficult transition for the 3 of us! But we’re working thru it!
