Harlequin Medical Month Blitz: That’s A Wrap!

On Wednesday last week, we wrapped up the Medical Month Blitz for Harlequin Medical Romance. A big thank you to everyone who submitted, we loved meeting your surgeons, nurses, midwives and vets!

During the submission period, which ran from May 1st to May 12th, we received a whopping 168 submissions from all over the world! From this exciting batch, we asked for revisions or to see a new submission from 7 promising voices and requested to see more material from an astonishing 31 authors! Watch this space …

If you submitted a Medical Romance after May 12th, we’re excited to read those too and will get back to you in our normal three-month time frame. We hope you’ll continue to submit to Harlequin Medical Romance and here are some tips on what we’re looking for in your next submission:

  • Development of the central romantic relationship against the backdrop of a contemporary medical setting.
  • Dynamic and dedicated medical professional protagonists at the top of their game with hearts of gold.
  • Main characters who work together in a medical setting – their working relationship, medical dramas etc. help to drive the romantic relationship.
  • Contemporary, international medical settings are integral to the story, and the central relationship should rise out of them.
  • A range of sensuality from intensely passionate to warm and tender.
  • An emotionally intense read, ranging from the traditional to the ground-breaking.
  • Innovative emotional conflicts and traditional emotional themes developed in a unique way are all welcome.
  • We are looking for stories with a diverse range of characters, and are happy to see romances between LGBTQ+ characters.

Thank you again to everyone who participated, spread the word and engaged with us online. It was a delight to read your query letters and thrilling Medical Romance stories.

As always, our submissions inbox is open all year, so if you have a Medical Romance you’re itching to tell, then send it to us (see for our submissions guidelines on Harlequin’s Submittable Page or via Write for Harlequin.
