A Day in the Life of Harlequin Author Karmen Lee

By Karmen Lee

My days can look so different depending on a lot of things (namely day of the week)!

Hey y’all! I’m Karmen Lee, author of the Peach Blossom series. Not only that, but I am also an indie author, and I have a day job AND I’m a single parent so…safe to say I have a lot to do during my days.

I usually start off around seven, getting myself together, the cats (Hansel and Gretel) fed, and my kid successfully to school. Once I get back home, it’s just coffee, me and the cats putting in an honest day’s work.

My coffee syrup collection is growing thankfully. I tend to get bored of flavors, so having a good variety saves me from wanting to go out and purchase one. Now, I can have a different flavor for just about every day of the week!

An endcap at a bookstore displays a collection of fall reads

On my lunch break, I usually grab a quick bite while checking emails, giving the cats more attention, taking a walk and grabbing books off the front porch that I wasn’t supposed to buying! I did have a chance to run by my local bookstore and catch a glimpse of my newest release, The Fall Fix Up, getting endcap placement with some other amazing fall reads! Unfortunately, I have to force myself to head back home and get back to work for the final few hours before I head to pick the kiddo up from school.

Once we’re home, because today is a soccer day, I pack up my laptop and drive him to soccer practice where I get 3 hours of uninterrupted writing time. I’m in the middle of nowhere, so no internet (I ignore my phone’s built-in hotspot) means no social media to distract me from the words I need to get. It’s just me, my playlist (I make one for every book I’m writing) and my muse.

My writing desk is often my car and my lap these days. Competitive soccer means I’ve had to get used to packing up everything I need and writing on the go. Actually, quite a few chapters have been dictated orally while driving down the road to our next soccer match. It makes for a fun editing experience when the app picks up my…colorful language when dealing with Atlanta traffic…

Once we’re home for good, I am in mom mode (AKA cooking dinner, watching soccer with the kiddo, discussing his day, and then leaving him to his video gaming with friends) until 10pm.

Then, it is all about the words again with a little encouragement from my cat, Gretel, until midnight when I do my Korean skincare routine (I swear by Beauty of Joseon products!) and turn on one of my favorite YouTube videos for some background rain sounds while I drift off to sleep. Tomorrow might be the same, or not. We shall see!

Welcome to Peach Blossom, an irresistibly charming small town where falling in love never goes quite as planned . . .

Aiden Flowers can fix anything. Cars, kitchens, houses—if something was broken, it could be rebuilt. Unless that something was his messy family. Especially his dad, who ruined Aiden’s credit. Or his sister, who Aiden hadn’t spoken to in years.

Janae Gunner is crafty, not handy. Give her a blank canvas, and she can make art. But she needed everything to be constructed before she could make it shine. That’s why she pretends her first marriage didn’t happen—pretty on the outside, with no foundation.

When an apartment fire leaves Aiden homeless and Janae living in a half-finished house, they agree to a practical fix up: Aiden will help Janae with repairs in exchange for a place to stay.

But neither of them planned on falling in love, especially not with their secrets threatening to surface. When the past catches up to them in the present, Aiden and Janae must weather the storm—or risk letting their spark burn out forever.
