The Author Spotlight | October 2025

Writing a book is always a journey! Even for authors who have written multiple books, there are still twists and turns in the road.

Today, 5 of our authors with a new release join us on the blog to tell us about the easiest, hardest, or most fun part of writing their new books.

Healing the Veteran by Ciara Knight

The biggest challenge in writing Healing the Veteran was showing Ace Gatlin’s core wounds beyond battle scars, survivor’s guilt, and into what motivates his actions. His feelings of being unworthy drove him to become a recluse until a determined woman appeared on his doorstep with a wounded K-9 in need of a second chance. That broken dog was a fellow warrior Ace could finally relate to. Together with Jolene, who had faced her own isolation after battling Guillain-Barré during a pivotal time in her life, he begins to discover every moment of life is a gift worth fighting for.

How to Seduce a Viscount by Bronwyn Scott

The hardest part was also the most fun and that was tying up all the loose ends of the series like: what happens with Stepan (the missing brother), how is married life working out for Lucien’s 2 older brothers? Did Luce’s sister have her baby? And of course, we’ve seen Lucien throughout the whole series, so it was important to build his character from the foundations that have already been laid and to incorporate the experiences he’s had throughout the series.

Colorado K-9 Rescue by Kathleen Donnelly

As a retired K-9 handler, I know a lot about working dogs, but not much about therapy dogs. I featured a crisis canine in Colorado K-9 Rescue and wanted to learn more. For research, I was able to meet up with a friend whose Labradoodle is a certified therapy dog. I loved watching the happy pup bring comfort by being hugged, held, and petted. His ability to help humans through difficult times was extraordinary to experience. Observing this special dog helped develop my fictional canine. This research was emotionally difficult, but also the most rewarding part of writing this book.

Forbidden to the Millionaire Doc by Juliette Hyland

This won’t be surprising because…author…but one of my favorite places in the world is libraries. I enjoy visiting mine and any I see when vacationing. They are magical. So, when I started crafting my heroine for Forbidden to the Millionaire Doc, I decided to give Wren this trait. Mostly because the San Diego Central Library is on my bucket list! It has NINE floors. This was a lovely excuse to visit its website and live vicariously through my heroine! Wren visits the Baseball Research Center, on floor eight, on the opening page and runs into her grumpy hero.

Vanished in the Mist by Lena Diaz

Vanished in the Mist delves into the myths and legends around the Smoky Mountains lake and town with the same name—Mystic Lake—as the hero and heroine search for a missing girl. My most challenging goal, which was also a ton of fun, was to treat the lake as if it too was a character in the story. I wove together the lake’s dark and dangerous history of unexplained tragedies to layer in atmosphere. The mist, for which the Smoky Mountains are named, became the lake’s way of hiding or revealing its secrets in a frustratingly unpredictable way.
