The Love Inspired editors are thrilled to announce our newest pitch opportunity, The Great Love Inspired Author Search. Love Inspired and Love Inspired Suspense are on the hunt for some fabulous new authors, and we want you! If you think you’ve got the chops to wow us with your inspirational contemporary romance or romantic suspense ideas, we encourage you to pitch it to us!
For this pitch opportunity, the Love Inspired editors are once again on the lookout for fresh talent. We invite you to show us that you’re the total package in these two stages:
1. Idea and Voice—Hook us with your great idea and intriguing voice by submitting a 1-3 page synopsis and your first chapter to one of the Love Inspired lines. Authors who wow us will move on to Round 2.
2. Full Package—Convince us you’re the real deal by submitting your full manuscript (word count of 55,000). The sky’s the limit for these authors. A contract could be within your reach if you bring it all together into a manuscript that we think our readers will love.
Here’s our timeline:
ROUND ONE
March 15, 2019: Submit the synopsis and first chapter of your inspirational romance or romantic suspense manuscript through our The Great Love Inspired Author Search page at Submittable.com, here, starting today.
By April 30, 2019: The editors will review the entries and provide feedback, letting you know whether you’ll move on to the next round and be invited to submit your full manuscript.
ROUND TWO
By August 1, 2019: All full manuscripts must be in house.
By October 1, 2019: Editors will review the submissions, and decisions will be made to contract, send a revision letter or reject each of the stories. All authors who submit full manuscripts by the August 1 deadline will receive notification of our decision within this time frame.
What you get:
- A quick response! Skip the slush pile and hear back from Harlequin within two months after the submission period ends.
- Editorial feedback for every Love Inspired appropriate story received.
- The possibility of having your novel published in the Love Inspired or Love Inspired Suspense line!
Helpful Tips:
- Please do not submit manuscripts that have already been rejected or are currently under consideration with any Harlequin line.
- This contest is for authors who have never been published with Harlequin and don’t already have full manuscripts under review by a Harlequin editor.
- As we ask for the first chapter only, your manuscript does NOT have to be complete when you submit to us in the first round. If we request a full manuscript, however, it should be submitted by August 1 in order to receive feedback within the outlined deadline.

Sound exciting? If you think you could rock this pitch, get ready to show us your stuff. Be sure to follow the guidelines for Love Inspired and Love Inspired Suspense. Only one entry per author, please. Deadlines are tight, so keep writing while you’re waiting to hear back. And if your book is complete now, don’t forget to tell us in your cover letter. You never know. We might want to pounce on your book right away. Ready, set, GO!
Best wishes,
The Love Inspired Editors

I wanted to point out there’s a discrepancy between Round 1 Dates on the blog and on the Submittable page. On the blog it reads until March 15, 2019. On Submittable it ends on March 18, 2019. 🙂
Thank you, Hana! This appears to be corrected now.
Wow this is so exciting! I have a wonderful story I want to pitch to you. It is my hope and goal to be a Love Inspired author.
Can the submission have a cliffhanger ending? My romantic suspense is closer to 100K words, but it has a great stopping point at around 55K (the only caveat is that it would end as a cliffhanger, with an associated “part 2” book after it).
Hi Chamah. No, each manuscript should be a complete 55,000-word story with a satisfying romance and–if suspense–a satisfying conclusion to the suspense thread.
What a great opportunity! I received feedback from the Love Inspired team via the #AmishBlitz and it was incredibly positive and helpful.
Is the one to three page synopsis double or single spaced?
Maybe someone will come along and correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it has to be double-spaced.
If a project was previously submitted to another line (Carina), but extensively rewritten, can it be submitted to LI?
Actually, I have a new project that would be perfect!

I spent the entire shutdown working. Had no time to wind down. I didn’t see my son much when school shutdown. My one co worker was told to stay home for 3 weeks so I picked up her hours. This year has been really crappy.
Ugh, Janell. Here’s hoping the rest of your summer is better.
Thanks for the info, Carol! Everyone is different in how they deal with the shutdown! I stay at home all the time since I don’t work so I haven’t been too effected but my shopping and errands sure have been effected!
Valri, I’ve been doing most of my shopping online. My local Target is still low on some items – mostly cleaning supplies. Grocery store is pretty much back to normal. Most of the dining in our town is outdoor. I can’t imagine have school-age kids!
Wow–getting your creative process on track must have been daunting–especially with “extra-large dog” glad to have you home. You don’t like coffee–I love coffee and have enjoyed my fortifying 2 cups in the morning even more than usual! How as COVID affected your story lines and characterizations? Best Wishes for all releases!
Interesting question, Virginia. You’ll have to tell me if the tone of my “COVID” books changed any! LOL
Life has changed so much! My dad passed Feb 2. The assisted living facility my folks were at went into hardcore lockdown the beginning of March. Mom couldn’t leave her apartment for 4 months! She was on the third floor, Will be 89 in two months & doesn’t use the phone. My husband and I remodeled the lower level completely and moved her in with us July 1. What a life change and difficult transition for the 3 of us! But we’re working thru it!
