There’s no better time than February to catch an editor’s eye with your Happily-Ever-After novel. This Valentine’s Day, Harlequin’s romance editors will be on the lookout for love stories that warm the heart. We’ll be monitoring social media channels all day for romance story pitches that could be published in one of Harlequin’s romance lines or Carina Press.

If you have a fully written but unpublished romance novel and are looking for a publisher, Harlequin editors are interested in seeing your pitch. We’re looking for category romance stories suitable for Harlequin’s romance lines and longer romance novels up to 125,000 words for Carina Press (links to writing guidelines are below). We are open to male/female and inclusive LGBTQ+ romance stories.

Pitch events are a great way to catch an editor’s eye and get them excited about your book. When editors “like” or reply to your pitch, you get immediate feedback on the types of stories they’re looking for.

If your pitch is selected, we’re looking for writers to submit their stories by Feb. 28, 2022. If a Harlequin editor requests your manuscript, please submit via Harlequin.Submittable.com. If a Carina Press editor requests your manuscript, please submit via CarinaPress.Submittable.com. No agent is required. If you submit requested work the deadline, you’ll get a response within 4 weeks (end of March).

If you’re a romance writer with a completed novel that’s waiting for a publisher, we’d love to hear from you!

Which romance lines are participating?

A bevy of editors will be monitoring Twitter and our Facebook event. We welcome authors of all backgrounds, communities and cultures.

Follow editors on Twitter for tips, reminders and what’s on their manuscript wish list (#MSWL). Read the writing guidelines for each line here. Read Carina Press guidelines here.

How to pitch

  • Craft your romance pitch into one 280-character tweet.
  • Post it on your Twitter feed with the hashtag #HarlequinPitch.
  • You can add a subgenre hashtag if you like but it’s not required (see below).
  • Check out these tips on pitching successfully online.
  • Then watch for a reply/like from a Harlequin editor.
  • If an editor “likes” your pitch, they’ll indicate in the comments which romance line they acquire for (i.e., Harlequin Desire, Harlequin Presents, Love Inspired, etc.) and ask you to submit to that line via Harlequin.Submittable.com. (For Carina Press, please submit via CarinaPress.Submittable.com.)
  • Include #HarlequinPitch with your story title when you submit it.
  • Make sure to submit your story by February 28th. If you miss the deadline, you can still polish your story and submit it anytime through our regular submission process.

Not on Twitter?

  • You can post your pitch on Facebook. Join the Write for Harlequin group on Facebook and check for an invitation to join the event.
  • On February 14 from 9 am to 5 pm EST, post your story pitch (280 characters max) to the event “Discussion”. Facebook pitches posted outside the event times will NOT be seen by editors so make sure you post during the event!

If your story is requested by an editor:

  • Please send a cover letter that includes your story pitch, a story synopsis and your manuscript by Feb. 28, 2022.
  • Read our FAQs for submission tips.

Tips and Rules

  • Pitch “unpublished” material that is not published elsewhere or available for sale or free download on a retail site.
  • Please choose only one social platform, Twitter OR Facebook, to post your pitch. Every pitch will be read by at least one of our editors, so as long as you post it once with the #HarlequinPitch hashtag, they’ll see it.
  • You can pitch more than one project.
  • We appreciate writers not re-pitching work that has been previously submitted to Harlequin and declined.
  • There’s no need to direct your tweet/post to a specific editor. Many editors will be monitoring the hashtag throughout the day.

We’re always accepting submissions!

If your pitch isn’t selected by an editor, remember this is not your only opportunity. Keep writing and know that you can send your manuscript anytime through our regular submissions process. You don’t need an agent and you can submit directly via Harlequin.Submittable.com to your preferred romance line, or CarinaPress.Submittable.com for Carina Press.
